About Craigellachie Distillery
Craigellachie distillery, situated in the village of Craigellachie at the heart of Scotland’s Speyside whisky region, derives its name from the Gaelic term meaning ‘rocky hill’, referencing the cliff overlooking the Spey River.
Established in 1891 by the Craigellachie Distillery Co. Limited under the leadership of Alexander Edward, it was later reconstructed as Craigellachie-Glenlivet Distillery Ltd in 1896 after incorporation as a limited company. Ownership transitioned to Peter Mackie in 1916, then to the Distillery Company Limited in 1927, and finally to SMD in 1930, marking a period of stability. In 1998, John Dewar & Sons acquired the distillery before Bacardi purchased John Dewar & Sons from Diageo in March of the same year.
Notably, in 2014, Dewar & Sons released a series of expressions, including a 13-year-old, 17-year-old, a travel retail exclusive 19-year-old, and a limited 23-year-old, as part of the Last Great Malts of Scotland. While the distillery has only released a few official bottlings throughout its history, its primary function remains the production of whisky for Dewar’s blended expressions.

Craigellachie is a renowned distillery located in Scotland with a rich heritage in producing fine whiskies. The rarity and quality of their products makes them desirable to collectors and enthusiasts, only increasing their value over time.
Whisky typically gains value as it ages and matures in the cask. The longer it remains in the cask, the more it has the potential to develop complexity and depth of flavors. We offer cask purchase programs that allow you to select the type of cask and aging duration, providing you with control over the maturation process.
Buying a cask allows you to own a unique piece of Bladnoch’s Kirkcowan Spirit production and a part of Bladnoch’s history. As the availability of aged and limited-edition whiskies decreases over time, the scarcity of these bottles can drive up their value.
Whisky has experienced growing popularity worldwide, particularly with the rise of collectors and investors seeking alternative assets. If the demand for premium Scotch whisky remains strong or continues to increase, it could positively impact the investment potential of your Kirkcowan Spirit (Bladnoch) cask. Recently we have seen the price of a standard bottle of Bladnoch rise from £40 to £80.
