About Tamdhu Distillery

Tamdhu distillery, located in Knockando, Banffshire, is a notable single malt Scotch Speyside whisky producer. Founded in 1896 by a group of assemblers, it quickly came under the ownership of Highland Distillers after its first whisky was distilled in 1897.

The distillery experienced a period of dormancy from 1927 to 1947 but expanded significantly between 1972 and 1975, tripling its production capacity.

In 2010, amidst economic challenges, Tamdhu was closed by its then-owner, Highland Distillers, under the Edrington Group. However, it was revived when Ian MacLeod Distillers purchased it in 2011, resuming single malt production in 2013.

Today, Tamdhu’s whisky primarily contributes to blended whiskies like The Famous Grouse, J & B, and Cutty Sark. Under Ian MacLeod’s ownership, Tamdhu’s range includes a 10-year-old and a non-age-statement “Batch Strength” bottling, both 100% sherry-matured. They also released a limited edition to celebrate the distillery’s reopening, aged in first-fill sherry casks. Independent bottlers also offer various Tamdhu expressions, showcasing its rich history and distinct flavour profile shaped by its sherry cask maturation.

Tamdhu is a renowned distillery located in Scotland with a rich heritage in producing fine whiskies. The rarity and quality of their products makes them desirable to collectors and enthusiasts, only increasing their value over time.

Whisky typically gains value as it ages and matures in the cask. The longer it remains in the cask, the more it has the potential to develop complexity and depth of flavors. We offer cask purchase programs that allow you to select the type of cask and aging duration, providing you with control over the maturation process.

Buying a cask allows you to own a unique piece of Bladnoch’s Kirkcowan Spirit production and a part of Bladnoch’s history. As the availability of aged and limited-edition whiskies decreases over time, the scarcity of these bottles can drive up their value.

Whisky has experienced growing popularity worldwide, particularly with the rise of collectors and investors seeking alternative assets. If the demand for premium Scotch whisky remains strong or continues to increase, it could positively impact the investment potential of your Kirkcowan Spirit (Bladnoch) cask. Recently we have seen the price of a standard bottle of Bladnoch rise from £40 to £80.
